May 2020 Volunteer of the Month - Melissa
This month we would like to recognize Melissa as our featured volunteer. She processes adoption applications for us, along with doing a short term foster or two and helping with other odds and ends. We really appreciate her efforts and are glad she chose Paw Patrol to work with!
I’ve been married to my husband Bob for 24 years and have 2 sons Zack (27 years old) and Blaine (23 years old). My fur-children are Ty (16) and Niles (7) and they mean the world to our family. When the boys were in school, we spent a lot of time traveling for sports. Once they graduated from high school I wanted to spend some time volunteering and that’s when an opportunity arose at the Dayton Foodbank. The last three years I’ve volunteered to distribute food to families with food insecurities. Not long after I started with the Foodbank, I had started taking notice of animal cruelty cases on social media. I was shocked by the information I continued to find about how horrible people could treat their pets, what actually takes place at puppy mills, the unnecessary euthanasia in shelters while we continue to breed, and the number of unaltered dogs which leads to this vicious cycle. When Paw Patrol posted an orientation meeting, I decided to attend. I wanted to help make a difference, but I wasn’t sure how. Over time, I’ve volunteered for different tasks but my current role is a good fit for me. I encourage anyone that’s interested in helping these pets live their best lives to volunteer. As we continue to add volunteers to our team, we can pull more dogs from the shelters. Oh yeah, we’re also pretty cool people!
Thanks again, Melissa, for all your hard work!
