January 2020 Volunteer of the Month - Shayna
To start 2020 off right, we are thanking one of our awesome fosters, Shayna, for all she does for Paw Patrol. Although she is a single mother, she finds time to dedicate to helping dogs get a second chance and we are so grateful she is willing to commit her time to this cause. Shayna recently told us a bit about herself and shared why she chooses to spend her time helping out the pups:
“I started fostering for Paw Patrol a few months after I had to put my beloved Scottie down. My kids wanted to get another dog since they were used to having two, but since I am a single mother I didn’t want to take the added expense of a second dog again. My daughter convinced me to foster since she was about to go to school to become a veterinarian, so with both my kids on board, we got our first foster dog.
At first I was a little apprehensive about fostering because I didn’t know how it would go and I didn’t want to get too attached to all of them. But after a few fosters, I found great joy in fostering and though I do get attached to some, I enjoy watching them go to their forever homes and the joy on their new families’ faces. Fostering has also helped with my anxiety; focusing on them and getting unconditional love from the dogs gives me a different sense of purpose.
Paw Patrol is a great organization. I have met new people and have stayed in contact with the families of some of the families that have adopted my foster dogs. My kids and I are so glad we decided to foster!
