September 2022 Volunteer of the Month - Martha Butler
This month we want to say a special thank you to one of our newer volunteers, Martha. She has been instrumental in helping us plan and orchestrate multiple events and fundraisers, as well as temporary fostering and helping with transport. A bit about Martha in her own words:
“My name is Martha Butler. I became a Paw Patrol volunteer earlier this year. I am semi retired now but I worked at the humane society, shelters, vet clinics, and doggie daycare for over 30 years. I have worked closely with animal rescues thru the years. Currently, I have two dogs of my own, Dirty Harriet, a 3 yr old lab mix rescue and Sophie, a 12 yr old chihuahua/pug adopted from the shelter.
Dirty Harriet came into my life in June,2021. She was a stray that had traveled from Brookville to Huber Heights along the interstate. We were finally able to trap her and I volunteered to foster her. I retired from the shelter in 2016 after my husband passed and was bouncing around trying to find my place. Harriet renewed my passion for helping animals and rescued me !! Now, I am volunteering with rescues again and have found my place.
I am willing and ready to do whatever the rescue needs. My only limitation at this time is that my 90 yr old mom lives out of state and I visit her frequently. I only do short term fostering for people going on vacation, etc. I have been working on fundraising a lot. I see this as an often overlooked but essential area of rescue work. I love getting our name out with the public and letting them know we are here to help. One important thing to know about me, I stay out of the spotlight and quietly work to get things done.”
We are so grateful Martha found us and are so happy to call her a Paw Patrol pack member
